Removal





1. NOTE: Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.

Loosen the right-hand suspension strut nut five turns.





2. Loosen the hub nuts.
1 Loosen the wheel nuts.

CAUTION: Use a socket to loosen the wheel hub retaining nut to prevent damage.

Loosen the wheel hub retaining nut.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.
4. Remove the right-hand wheel.





5. CAUTION: Protect the ball point seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.

Detach the right-hand lower arm.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Detach the lower arm ball Joint.





6. CAUTION: The wheel hub retaining nut can be re-used four times; mark the retaining nut.

Use a commercially available puller, detach the right-hand drive halfshaft from the wheel hub.
- Unscrew and remove the hub nut and press out the hub from the wheel hub.





7. CAUTION: Support the halfshaft. The inner halfshaft joint must not be bent by more than 18 degrees.

NOTE: Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.

Remove the right-hand drive halfshaft.
- Remove and discard the retaining clip and nuts.
- Remove and discard the bearing bracket.
- Pull out the intermediate shaft.
- Close off the transaxle opening with an auxiliary plug.

Installation

All vehicles





1. CAUTION: Do not damage the oil seal when inserting the right-hand drive halfshaft. In the case of the iB5 transaxle, use an installation sleeve (supplied with each new oil seal).

Install the right-hand drive halfshaft with the intermediate shaft.





2. NOTE: Install a new intermediate shaft bearing bracket.

NOTE: Install a new retaining clip and nuts on the intermediate bearing.

NOTE: Insert the intermediate shaft into the transaxle until the intermediate shaft bearing contacts the rib of the intermediate shaft bracket.

Install the front drive halfshaft with intermediate shaft.
- Clean the bearing surface on the bracket.





3. CAUTION: The wheel hub retaining nut can be re-used four times; inspect the marking on the nut and install a new retaining nut if necessary.

NOTE: Do not fully tighten the wheel hub retaining nut.

Using the special tool install the right-hand halfshaft stub into the wheel hub.
- Install the wheel hub retaining nut.

Vehicles with iB5 manual transaxle
4. Check the transmission fluid level.

Vehicles with MTX-75 manual transaxle
5. Check the transmission fluid level.

Vehicles with automatic transaxle
6. Check the transmission fluid level.

All vehicles





7. Attach the right-hand lower arm.
1 Attach the lower arm ball joint.
2 Install the bolt.
8. Install the wheel.
9. Lower the vehicle.





10. NOTE: Use a 32 mm socket wrench.

Tighten the wheel hub retaining nut.





11. Tighten the wheel nuts.





12. NOTE: Use an Allen key to prevent the piston rod from rotating.

Tighten the left-hand suspension strut lock nut.





13. Tighten the right-hand suspension strut lock nut.
- Use an Allen key to stop the piston rod turning.
- Tighten by hand with a ring spanner.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten to torque.
14. Standard finishing operations.
- Road test the vehicle.
