Evaporative Emission Control Canister: Service and Repair

EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CANISTER

REMOVAL

1. WARNING: The evaporative emission system contains fuel vapor and condensed fuel vapor. Although not present in large quantities, it still presents the danger of explosion or fire. Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery to minimize the possibility of an electrical spark occurring, possibly causing a fire or explosion if fuel vapor or fuel liquid is present in the area. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.







3. Disconnect the canister vent solenoid electrical connector and the pin-type retainer.







4. CAUTION: Care must be taken to avoid damaging the canister vent solenoid.

Disconnect the canister vent solenoid tube.







5. Remove the three bolts.







6. Disconnect the evaporative emission canister tube and remove the canister and bracket.







7. Remove the evaporative emission canister from the bracket.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Carry out the evaporative emission system leak test. Evaporative Emission System Leak Test
