Halfshaft Seal LH





Special Tool(s)

Removal





1. Loosen the strut and spring assembly top mount retaining nuts by five turns.
2. Remove the wheel and tire.





3. CAUTION: Leave the tie-rod end retaining nut in place to protect the ball joint stud.

Loosen the tie-rod end retaining nut.





4. CAUTION: Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.

Using the special tool, detach the tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle.
1. Release the tie-rod end.
2. Remove and discard the tie-rod end retaining nut.





5. CAUTION: Protect the ball joint seal using a soft cloth to prevent damage.

Detach the lower arm ball joint from the wheel knuckle.
1. Remove the nut and bolt.
2. Detach the ball joint from the wheel knuckle.
- Remove the heat shield.





6. CAUTION: Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees.

Using the special tools, detach the halfshaft from the transaxle and secure it to one side.
- Discard the snap ring.
- Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.





7. Using the special tools, remove the halfshaft oil seal.

Installation





1. Using the special tools, install the halfshaft oil seal.





2. CAUTION: Support the halfshaft. The inner joint must not be bent more than 18 degrees. The outer joint must not be bent more than 45 degrees.

CAUTION: Do not damage the halfshaft oil seal.

CAUTION: Make sure the snap ring is correctly seated.

NOTE: Install a new snap ring.

Attach the halfshaft to the transaxle.





3. CAUTION: The lower arm pinch bolt must be installed from the rear of the wheel knuckle.

CAUTION: Make sure the heat shield is installed to prevent damage to the ball joint.

Attach the lower arm ball joint to the wheel knuckle.
1. Attach the ball joint to the wheel knuckle.
2. Install the nut and bolt.





4. WARNING: Install a new tie-rod end retaining nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

Attach the tie-rod end to the wheel knuckle.
5. Check the transaxle fluid level and top up with manual transmission fluid, if necessary.
6. Install the wheel and tire.





7. Tighten the strut and mount retaining nuts prong assembly top
