Removal
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
4. Remove the radiator sight shield.
5. Install the special tool.
6. Install the special tool.
7. Install the special tool.
8. Remove the front springs.
9. Remove the LH engine mount nut.
10. Remove the RH engine mount nut.
11. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.
12. Position the wiring harness bracket aside.
Vehicles with convertible top
13. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Remove the six splash shield pin-type retainers.
14. Remove the 13 bolts and the cross-brace support.
Vehicles with hard top
15. Remove the front subframe brace.
^ Remove the bolts.
All vehicles
16. CAUTION: Do not allow the intermediate shaft to rotate while it is disconnected from the gear or damage to the clockspring can occur. If there is evidence that the intermediate shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.
Remove the bolt and disconnect the intermediate shaft from the gear. Discard the bolt.
17. Position two safety stands under the subframe crossmember.
18. Remove the four subframe lower bolts.
19. Remove the two subframe upper bolts.
20. NOTE: Do not completely remove these bolts.
Loosen the two bolts.
21. Using the safety stands, lower the front subframe.
22. Remove the transmission bolts.
23. Remove the oil pan bolts.
24. Remove the oil pan.
Installation
All vehicles
1. NOTE: If the oil pan is not secured within four minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or four minutes, whichever is longer. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.
Clean and apply sealant to the oil pan sealing areas shown and install the oil pan rear seal.
1. Apply silicone gasket and sealant to the rear main bearing cap.
2. Install the oil pan rear seal.
3. Clean the oil pan mating surfaces with metal surface cleaner an apply silicone gasket and sealant to the oil pan mating surface.
2. Position the oil pan and start the bolts.
3. Tighten the bolts in two stages in the sequence shown.
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
4. Install the transmission lower bolts.
5. Install the oil pan drain plug.
6. Using the safety stands, raise the front subframe into position.
7. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Using the special tool, align the subframe.
8. Tighten the two bolts.
9. Install the two bolts.
10. Install the four subframe lower bolts.
11. Remove the safety stands.
12. Position the intermediate shaft and install a new bolt.
Vehicles with hard top
13. Install the front subframe brace.
^ Install the bolts.
Vehicles with convertible top
14. Position the cross-brace support and install the 13 bolts.
15. NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Install the six splash shield pin-type retainers.
All vehicles
16. Install the bracket.
17. Install the RH engine mount nut.
18. Install the LH engine mount nut.
19. Install the front springs.
20. Install the radiator sight shield.
21. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe.
22. Connect the battery ground cable.
23. Fill the engine with clean engine oil.
