Diesel Data: Automotive Repair

Steps 36-77

36. Rotate the belt tensioner and remove the accessory drive belt.

37. Remove the bolt.

38. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley.

39. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft front seal.

40. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.

41. Drain the engine oil.
^ Install the drain plug when finished.

42. Remove the oil cooler.
1. Remove the oil bypass filter.
2. Inspect the O-ring and clean the sealing surface.
3. Remove the insert and the oil cooler.

43. Remove the three bolts shown. Loosen the fourth bolt (hidden below the power steering tube) and position the power steering pump aside.

44. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.

45. Remove the four front bolts.

46. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.

47. Remove the generator B+ terminal nut and detach the B+ cable.

48. Remove the bolts and the generator.

49. Remove the generator support bracket.

50. Disconnect the radiator upper hose and the radiator lower hose.

51. Disconnect the wiring harness anchors and engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.

52. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.

Remove the coolant bypass nuts.

53. NOTE: LH shown, RH similar.

Remove the bolts and the coolant bypass tube.

54. Remove the two screws and position the clutch release cable aside.

55. Remove the LH ignition coil cover bolts and the cover.

56. Disconnect the LH ignition coil electrical connectors.

57. Remove the LH ignition coils.

58. Remove the bolt and position the oil level indicator tube aside.

59. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve from the LH valve cover and position aside.

60. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pressure transducer. EGR vacuum regulator solenoid, supercharger bypass vacuum solenoid, and the differential pressure feedback EGR system.

61. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the differential feedback EGR system.

62. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the supercharger bypass vacuum solenoid and the actuator.

63. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the fuel pressure transducer and the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid, and position the vacuum harness aside.

64. Remove the vacuum accessory bracket mounting nut.

65. Remove the mounting bolts and the vacuum accessory bracket.

66. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.

67. Remove the LH valve cover.

68. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.

Clean and inspect the sealing surfaces and the valve cover gaskets. If necessary, install new gaskets. Make sure the gaskets are correctly seated on the valve cover.

69. Disconnect the supercharger coolant hose.

70. Disconnect the supercharger coolant hoses and remove the supercharger hose and tube assembly.

71. Disconnect the power steering hoses and drain the power steering fluid into a suitable container.

72. Remove the nut and position the wiring harness bracket aside.

73. Remove the wiring harness bracket.

74. Remove the coolant pump pulley.

75. Remove the bolt and the belt idler pulley.

76. Remove the bolts, the studs and the engine front cover.

77. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of oil sealant.

Remove and discard the gasket, clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
