Water PumpRemoval and Installation
Mach I vehicles
1. Remove the air intake scoop.
All vehicles
2. Drain the engine coolant.
Cobra vehicles
3. Drain the supercharger coolant.
4. Remove the nut and position the wiring harness aside.
5. Remove the stud and position the coolant hose assembly aside.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Disconnect the coolant hoses.
8. Remove the push pins and the radiator sight shield.
9. Remove the bolts and the degas bottle.
10. Remove the supercharger drive belt cover.
11. Rotate the supercharger belt tensioner clockwise and remove the supercharger drive belt.
12. Disconnect the supercharger coolant hose.
13. Remove the coolant hose mounting bolt.
14. Remove the nut.
15. Remove the fasteners and position the power steering reservoir aside.
16. Remove the A/C muffler bracket nut and position it aside.
17. Remove the belt idler bracket support assembly.
All vehicles
18. Loosen the coolant pump pulley bolts.
Cobra vehicles
19. Rotate the belt tensioner and position the belt from the pulley.
Mach I vehicles 4.6L (2V) and 4.6L (4V)
20. Remove the accessory drive belt.
All vehicles
21. Remove the bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
22. Remove the four bolts and the coolant pump.
23. If necessary, wipe the coolant pump mounting surface with a soft cloth.
24. CAUTION: Do not rotate the coolant pump housing once installed in the engine. Damage to the O-ring seal can occur, causing the coolant pump to leak.
NOTE: Install a new O-ring seal and lubricate with the same clean engine coolant that is present in the system. Do not mix coolant types.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
