Keyless Entry: Description and Operation

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

Remote Keyless Entry

The door locks and luggage compartment lid can be operated by the remote transmitter. When a command is received from the remote transmitter, the RKE module will send a command to the REM to unlock/lock a door or release the luggage compartment lid.

The remote transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- opens the trunk
- unlocks the driver door
- unlocks all doors
- locks all doors
- activates/deactivates the panic alarm
- commands the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed twice within three seconds, and doors are closed
- sounds the horn twice when the LOCK button is pressed twice within 3 seconds and any door, trunk or hood is open

The remote transmitter has a minimum operating range of 10 m (33 feet).

The remote transmitters can be programmed using a diagnostic tool or by using the ignition lock cylinder method.
