Parking Brake System: Service and Repair
Parking BrakeSpecial Tool(s)
1. Remove the floor console.
2. Remove the components in the order indicated in the above illustration and table.
3. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Item 1: Front Parking Brake Cable Removal Note
1. Pull tab and slide handle up.
2. WARNING: The parking brake control will have spring tension on the tension arm and, if released inadvertently, can cause injury. Use care when working on or around the parking brake control when the tension arm is in the locked position. Failure to follow these instructions can cause personal injury.
Using a screwdriver, push down on the tension arm until it is fully depressed.
3. Move the tension arm down and release the screwdriver.
4. Remove the cable anchor pin.
5. Using a 13 mm (0.52 inch) box-end wrench, depress the conduit retainer and remove the parking brake cable and conduit from the control.
6. Disconnect the rear parking brake cables.
7. Remove the equalizer.
8. Snap the front cable grommet out of the floor and remove the cable.
9. Tie mechanics wire to the old cable and conduit to make installation of new cable easier.
10. Using a 13 mm (0.52 inch) box-end wrench, depress the conduit retaining prongs and remove the parking brake cable and conduit.
Item 6: Rear Parking Brake Cable Removal Note
1. Using a 13 mm (0.52 inch) box-end wrench, depress the conduit retainer and remove the parking brake rear cable and conduit.
2. Disconnect the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the parking brake lever.
3. Using a 13 mm (0.52 inch) box-end wrench, depress the conduit retaining prongs and remove the parking brake rear cable and conduit.
