Thermostat Housing: Service and Repair

Thermostat Housing

1. Drain the cooling system.








2. Remove the engine appearance cover.
3. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
4. To remove individual components, only carry out the listed steps.
5. Illustration 1 of 2. Remove the components in the order indicated in the illustration and table.





6. Illustration 2 of 2. Remove the components in the order indicated in the illustration and table.











7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
8. Fill and bleed the cooling system.

Item 9: Thermostat-to-Thermostat Housing Retainer Removal Note





1. NOTE: Thermostat can be rotated in either direction to release it from the thermostat housing.

Using an 18 mm open-end wrench, simultaneously push down and turn the thermostat retainer to release the thermostat from the housing.

Item 10: Thermostat Spring Installation Note
1. Be sure to install the small end of the thermostat spring towards the thermostat housing.

1. CAUTION: Make sure to align the thermostat pin into the hole in the housing when installing the thermostat.

CAUTION: Make sure the tabs on the thermostat retainer are locked into the thermostat housing after installing the thermostat.

NOTE: Thermostat can be rotated in either direction to install it in the thermostat housing.

Using an 18 mm open-end wrench, simultaneously push down and turn the thermostat retainer to install the thermostat in the housing.
