Normal Operation
Normal engine operating temperature is 60°C (140°F) to 120°C (248°F). Redline starts at 121°C (249.8°F). The cylinder head temperature sending unit monitors the coolant temperature at the cylinder head and is hardwired directly to the powertrain control module (PCM) through circuit 8-RJ33 (WH/VT) and circuit 9-RJ33 (BN/WH). The status of the cylinder head temperature is sent from the PCM to the instrument cluster over the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communication network, circuits 4-EG8 (GY/VT) and 5-EG8 (BU/WH). The instrument cluster DTC U1073 will be logged if the instrument cluster fails to receive the engine temperature status from the PCM.
Possible Causes
- circuit 8-RJ33 (WH/VT) open, short to power or ground
- circuit 9-RJ33 (BN/WH) open, short to power or ground
- cylinder head temperature sending unit
- powertrain control module (PCM)
- instrument cluster
