PINPOINT TEST F: THE CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR FLICKERS OR IS INTERMITTENT

Test F1:

Test F2-F3:

Normal Operation
With the engine running, the charging system warning indicator should be off. The sense A circuit 30-BA25 (RD) to the generator field coil is 13-15 volts. The I (ignition) circuit 10-BA25 (GY/RD) is used to turn on the voltage regulator. This circuit will be 0.0 volts with the key ON and the engine not running (1-8V with the engine running). The battery positive output (B+) circuit 30-BA6 (RD) is the generator output supplied to the battery and electrical system.

NOTE: If the I circuit 10-BA25 (GY/RD) is open or shorted to ground, the generator will not function. If the engine speed exceeds 3000 rpm, the generator will self-excite, and begin to function normally (the battery light will turn off and the generator will operate normally) until the engine is turned off. This is a limp-home mode for customer safety.

Possible Causes
- rear battery junction box (BJB) fuse 15 (5A) connections
- generator
- generator connections
- instrument cluster
