Ignition Switch and Multifunction Switch

Inspection and Verification
1. Verify the customer concern by operating the ignition switch and the multifunction switch on the steering column.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Refer to the chart:

NOTE: For multifunction switch concerns, refer to one of the following sections:
^ Exterior Lighting.
^ Wipers and Washers.

3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ check that the program card is correctly installed.
^ check the connections to the vehicle.
^ check the ignition switch position.
4. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
^ SCP or ISO; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to Information Bus, for the Front Electronic Module (FEM) or Information, Gauges, and Wiring Devices for the Instrument Cluster Module (ICM).
5. If DTCs are present, refer to Information Bus, for FEM-related DTCs or Information, Gauges, and Wiring Devices for ICM-related DTCs, for further diagnostics.
6. If no DTCs are present, GO to Steering Column Switches to continue diagnostics.
