PARKING BRAKE LEVER DECORATIVE BOOT BROKEN/CRACKED
FORD:
2002-2005 Thunderbird
ISSUE
Some 2002-2005 Thunderbird vehicles may exhibit a broken/cracked parking brake lever decorative boot.
ACTION
Replace the decorative boot. The boot has been released for service separately. It is no longer necessary to replace the complete parking brake assembly. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the boot's lower retaining ring from the center console. The retaining ring release clip is at the front of the boot (toward front of vehicle).
2. Pull the bottom of the boot up over the brake lever handle, so it is inside-out.
3. Cut the nylon tie strap holding the top of the boot to the brake lever.
4. Remove the boot by sliding it up over the lever.
5. Slide the new boot on inside-out, paying attention to the orientation of the lower retaining ring. The retaining ring release clip should be facing the front of the vehicle when installed in the console.
6. Align the top edge of the boot to the bottom of the brake lever handle.
7. Place a nylon tie strap around the boot and handle in the groove of the molded plastic and secure.
8. Snap the boot retaining ring into the console.
