Diesel Data: Automotive Repair

Test O: The SYNC System Is Completely Inoperative

PINPOINT TEST O: THE SYNC SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE

Normal Operation
The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) receives voltage at all times from circuit SBP13 (GY/RD), and ground through circuit GD114 (BK/BU). The wake-up signal is sent to the APIM by the audio control module (ACM), via the medium speed controller area network (MS-CAN). All audio sources except the AM/FM tuner and in-dash CD are provided to the ACM from the APIM. Satellite audio, if equipped, is routed through the APIM to the ACM.

- DTC U0184 (Lost Communication With Radio [ACM]) - sets when the APIM is missing messages from the ACM for greater than 5 seconds. This results in a complete loss of SYNC system functionality.
- DTC U0197 (Lost Communication With Telephone Control Module) - sets when the ACM is missing messages from the APIM for greater than 5 seconds. This results in a complete loss of SYNC system functionality.
- DTC U0255 (Lost Communication With Front Controls Interface Module) - sets when the APIM is missing messages from the front control interface module (FCIM) for greater than 5 seconds. This results in the inability to interact with the SYNC system using the FCIM, although the steering wheel controls should still be able to operate the system if the source of the concern is the network circuitry or the FCIM.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Audio system concern
- Communication network concern
- Customer error
- Customer device
- APIM
