Interior - Front Seat Head Restraints Rise While Driving

FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTS RISE WHILE DRIVING
FORD:
2008 Focus
ISSUE
Some 2008 Focus vehicles may exhibit the front seat head restraint rising while driving. This may be caused by inadequate tension being applied by the head restraint guides or excess lubrication.
ACTION
Replace both head restraint guides following the service procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Obtain new head restraint guides to service both passenger and drivers side front seats.
2. Remove head restraint by depressing the release tab on both head restraint guides and sliding the head restraint upwards.
NOTE
THE HEAD RESTRAINT GUIDES ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE.
3. Remove the two (2) head restraint guides by releasing the locking tab below the button and remove. (Figure 1)
4. Insert left hand guide into the left hand position of the seat back and right hand guide into the right hand position of the seat back.
5. Wipe off any grease or lubricants from the head restraint rods and reinstall into the appropriate guides.
6. Cycle the headrest to lowest position and then to the highest position to verify proper operation.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 for the opposite seat.
