Brakes - Front Brake Squeal on Initial Application

FRONT BRAKE NOISE - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 1/15/2008

ISSUE
Some 2008 Focus vehicles built on or before 1/15/2008 may exhibit a brake squeal noise from the front brakes during their initial application after being parked for a period of time when going forward or reverse. This concern may be more prevalent in humid/damp conditions.
ACTION
Refer to Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the brake pads from the calipers following Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 206-03.

DO NOT BREATHE DUST OR USE COMPRESSED AIR TO BLOW DUST FROM STORAGE CONTAINERS OR FRICTION COMPONENTS. REMOVE DUST USING GOVERNMENT-APPROVED TECHNIQUES. FRICTION COMPONENT DUST MAY BE A CANCER AND LUNG DISEASE HAZARD. EXPOSURE TO POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS COMPONENTS MAY OCCUR IF DUSTS ARE CREATED DURING REPAIR OF FRICTION COMPONENTS, SUCH AS BRAKE PADS AND CLUTCH DISCS. EXPOSURE MAY ALSO CAUSE IRRITATION TO SKIN, EYES AND RESPIRATORY TRACT, AND MAY CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS AND/OR MAY LEAD TO OTHER CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS. IF IRRITATION PERSISTS, SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION OR ADVICE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.
2. Apply a SMALL amount of Motorcraft� Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound to the indicated areas. (Figure 1)
CAUTION
USE MINIMAL AMOUNTS OF XG-3-A SO NOT TO CONTAMINATE THE BRAKE FRICTION MATERIAL OR BRAKE ROTOR.
3. Reinstall the brake pads as per WSM, Section 206-03.
