Interior - Carpet Pulled Out From Under Scuff Plates
TSB 10-15-808/16/10
CARPET PULLED OUT FROM UNDER THE DOOR SCUFF TRIM PANELS.
FORD:
2008-2009 Focus
This article supersedes TSB 09-17-02 to update the Service Procedure.
ISSUE
Some 2008-2009 Focus vehicles built on or before 9/30/2008 may exhibit the carpet pulling out from under the front door scuff trim panel area. This concern may be perceived as the carpet being cut too short, but is caused by inadequate carpet retention to the body scuff trim panel area.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the door scuff trim panels. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-05.
2. Cut an additional retainer clip slot into both the right and left rocker panels.
a. Measure rearward of the existing front clip slot 4" (102 mm). (Figure 1-D)
b. Drill four (4) 3/16" (5 mm) holes in a straight line (Figure 1-B), starting 4" (102 mm) rearward of the front clip slot, and extending rearward 13/16" (20.6 mm). (Figure 1-A)
NOTE
BE CERTAIN THE NEW SLOTS ARE IN LINE WITH THE EXISTING CARPET RETAINER CLIP SLOTS IN THE ROCKER PANEL. FIGURE 1-C SHOWS CURRENT CARPET RETAINER CLIPS
C. Using a file or other suitable tool, smooth the edges of the holes to duplicate the existing clip slot size and shape.
3. Attach the new carpet retainer clip to the existing carpet on both left and right side.
a. Using a drill bit or mechanic's pick, add two 1/8" (3 mm) holes in the carpet retainer clip.
b. Align the new carpet retainer clip to the edge of the carpet and use a mechanic's pick to add two corresponding holes in the carpet.
c. Feed a small tie strap 4" (101 mm) long, 3/64" (1 mm) thick and 3/32" (2 mm) wide (obtained locally) through both holes, tighten, and cut off the excess.
d. Insert each new carpet retainer into the new retainer slot.
4. Reinstall both door scuff trim panels. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
