Fuel System - Ticking Noise Heard At Idle

TICKING NOISE AT IDLE - FUEL RAIL - BUILT ON OR
BEFORE 12/23/2009

This article supersedes TSB 09-26-9 to add a production fix date.
ISSUE
Some 2008-2010 Focus vehicles built on or before 12/23/2009 may exhibit a ticking noise from the fuel rail or injectors at idle that may sound like upper valvetrain noise.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the two (2) fuel rail to the cylinder head attaching bolts to allow access for cover installation. (Figure 1)
NOTE
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE FUEL RAIL
2. Slide the insulator over the fuel rail. Water may be used to aid in installation. (Figure 2)
NOTE
DO NOT USE ANY OTHER FORM OF LUBRICATION.
3. Reposition the fuel rail and tighten fuel rail bolts 18 lb-ft (25 N.m).
