FUEL GAUGE READS APPROXIMATELY 3.8 LITERS
(1 GALLON) LESS THAN ACTUAL AT FULL
POSITION - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 7/14/2010
FORD:
2011 Fiesta
ISSUE
Some 2011 Fiesta vehicles built on or before 7/14/2010 may exhibit the fuel gauge reading approximately 3.8 Liters (1 Gallon) less than actual at Full (F) position.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove fuel tank. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 310-01.
NOTE
FAILURE TO CLEAN THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK PRIOR TO LOCKING RING REMOVAL AND/OR FAILURE TO USE LOCK RING WRENCH TOOL (310-123) MAY RESULT IN EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LEAK.
2. Remove fuel pump module. Refer to WSM, Section 310-01.
3. Remove and replace fuel level sender. Refer to WSM, Section 310-01.
4. Replace fuel pump module 0-ring seal. Lubricate new 0-ring seal with clean engine oil prior to installation.
5. Reinstall fuel pump module.
6. Reinstall fuel tank.
7. Reprogram the Instrument Panel Cluster to the latest calibration using IDS release 69.05 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2010.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
NOTE
FAILURE TO REPROGRAM THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MAY RESULT IN FUEL GAUGE READING FULL FOR AN EXTENDED TIME PERIOD BEFORE INDICATING ACTUAL FUEL LEVEL.
