Pinpoint Test D: The Luggage Compartment Lamp Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a voltage signal to the luggage compartment lid ajar switch (part of the latch) to monitor the trunk ajar status. The switch is normally closed when the luggage compartment lid is closed, and is open when the luggage compartment lid is open. The ajar switch also controls the ground side of the luggage compartment lamp. The luggage compartment ajar switch completes the path to ground for the luggage compartment lamp when the luggage compartment lid is open.

- DTC B1331 (Decklid Ajar Rear Door Circuit Failure) - an on-demand DTC that sets when the SJB detects an open from the luggage compartment lid ajar input circuit.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Luggage compartment lid latch
- Luggage compartment lamp
- SJB

PINPOINT TEST D: THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
D1 CHECK THE DEMAND LAMP OPERATION

- Check the operation of the map lamps.
- Do the map lamps operate correctly?

Yes
GO to D2.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test F. Pinpoint Test F: The Demand Lamp(s) Are Inoperative

-------------------------------------------------
D2 CHECK THE DECKLID AJAR PID

- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB DataLogger.
- Monitor the SJB luggage compartment ajar switch PID (DECKLID) while opening and closing the decklid.
- Does the decklid ajar PID agree with the decklid positions?

Yes
GO to D3.

No
GO to D6.

-------------------------------------------------
D3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP

- Ignition OFF.
- Open the luggage compartment lid.
- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428.
- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C428-1, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to D4.

No
REPAIR circuit CLN09 (YE/GN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
D4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND

- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lamp C428-2, circuit CLN13 (WH/BU), harness side and the luggage compartment lamp C428-1, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN).

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new luggage compartment lamp assembly. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to D5.

-------------------------------------------------
D5 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Connect: Luggage Compartment Lamp C428.
- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C430.
- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lid latch C430-2, circuit CLN13 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR circuit CLN13 (WH/BU) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
D6 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Latch C430.
- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lid latch C430-1, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to D8.

No
GO to D7.

-------------------------------------------------
D7 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280c.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB C2280c-16, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and the luggage compartment lid latch C430-1, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to D9.

No
REPAIR circuit CPL58 (GY/OG) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
D8 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH USING THE CONNECTOR GROUND

- Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lid latch C430-1, circuit CPL58 (GY/OG), harness side and the luggage compartment lid latch C430-4, circuit GD110 (BK/WH), harness side.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to Handles, Locks, Latches and Entry Systems Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No

-------------------------------------------------
D9 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION

- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
