Shift Cable: Service and Repair




Gearshift Cables

Removal and Installation









1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery Tray.

3. Disconnect the gearshift cables from the transaxle.

1. Press the release button, then detach the shift cable from the shift lever.

2. Press the release button, then detach the selector cable from the selector lever.





4. Disconnect the gearshift cables from the bracket.

1. Detach the shift cable from the retaining bracket by pulling the abutment sleeve rearward, then lift the cable out of the bracket.

2. Detach the selector cable from the retaining bracket by pulling the abutment sleeve rearward, then lift the cable out of the bracket.





5. Disconnect the exhaust flange and remove it from the rubber insulators.
- To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).





6. Disconnect the center exhaust hanger. Lower the exhaust system and support it with wire.





7. Disconnect the gearshift cables from the underbody cable clip.

8. Remove the 6 screws and disconnect the heat shield.





9. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Instrument Panel and Console Service and Repair.

10. Remove the rear footwell heating duct.

11. Disconnect the gearshift and selector cables from the gearshift lever in the following sequence.

1. Carefully pry the gearshift cables from the gearshift levers.

2. Detach the gearshift and selector cables by pushing the abutment collar forward.





12. Cut the insulation and fold it to one side.





13. Remove the 2 cable bracket nuts and detach the cable bracket from the floor.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

14. Remove the gearshift cable assembly.
- Pull the cables through into the interior.

15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- An audible click will be heard when the gearshift cables are correctly seated in the retaining bracket.

- Using duct tape, cover the cut in the insulation.
