Power Steering Pump

Removal

NOTICE: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Using a suitable suction device, siphon the power steering fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir.

3. Remove the 7 pin-type retainers and the RH splash shield.

4. Position the Stretchy Belt Remover on the power steering pump pulley belt as shown.

5. NOTE: Feed the Stretchy Belt Remover onto the power steering pump pulley approximately 90 degrees.

Turn the crankshaft clockwise and feed the Stretchy Belt Remover evenly on the power steering pump pulley as shown.

6. Remove the power steering pump belt.
- Fold the Stretchy Belt Remover under the inside of the power steering pump belt as shown.

- In one quick motion, firmly pull the Stretchy Belt Remover out of the RH fender well, removing the power steering pump belt.

7. Release the clamp and disconnect the power steering fluid reservoir-to-pump supply hose from the power steering pump.
- Detach the supply hose retainer from the pressure line bracket.

8. Remove the pressure line bracket-to-engine bolt.

9. Remove the 3 power steering pump bolts.

10. Holding the power steering pump with a punch inserted into a mounting bolt cavity, disconnect the pressure line fitting-to-power steering pump.

Installation

1. NOTICE: A new Teflon(R) seal must be installed any time the pressure line is disconnected from the power steering pump or a fluid leak may occur.

Using the Teflon(R) Seal Installer Set, install a new Teflon(R) seal on the power steering pressure line fitting.

2. Holding the power steering pump with a punch inserted into a mounting cavity, connect the pressure line fitting-to-power steering pump.
- Tighten to 75 Nm (55 lb-ft).

3. Position the power steering pump and install the 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

4. Position the bracket and install the pressure line bracket-to-engine bolt.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).

5. Release the clamp and connect the power steering fluid cooler-to-pump supply hose.
- Attach the supply hose retainer to the pressure line bracket.

6. Using the Stretchy Belt Installer Tool, install the power steering pump belt onto the power steering pump pulley.
- Install the Stretchy Belt Installer Tool, between the power steering pump belt and pulley and turn the crankshaft bolt clockwise.

7. Install the RH inner fender splash shield. For additional information, refer to Front End Body Panels Fender Splash Shield.

8. Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to Steering System - Hydraulic Power Assist Steering (HPAS) Power Steering System Filling.
