Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering - with Intelligent Access (IA)

Depowering
WARNING: Never disassemble or tamper with seat belt deployable components, including pretensioners, load limiters and inflators. Never back probe deployable device electrical connectors. Tampering or back probing may cause an accidental deployment and result in personal injury or death.
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of accidental deployment, do not use any memory saver devices. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed and the ignition is ON.
NOTE: The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
1. Turn all vehicle accessories OFF.
2. Turn the ignition OFF.
3. At the BCM (Body Control Module), located on the bulkhead below the glove box, remove the RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse 86 (10A) from the BCM (Body Control Module). Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 11 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
4. Turn the ignition ON and monitor the air bag warning indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag warning indicator remains lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse is removed. If the air bag warning indicator is not lit continuously, remove the correct RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse before proceeding.
5. Turn the ignition OFF.
6. WARNING: Always deplete the backup power supply before repairing or installing any new front or side air bag SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) component and before servicing, removing, installing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side impact sensors or the RCM (Restraints Control Module). Nearby components include doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches. Refer to the Description and Operation portion of Restraints and Safety Systems for location of the RCM (Restraints Control Module) and impact sensor(s). To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least 1 minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped). Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.
Disconnect the battery ground cable at the LF (Left Front) strut tower. Make sure that the ground cable is completely isolated from the vehicle chassis and cannot make electrical contact with any part of the vehicle chassis during service.
7. Wait at least one minute before continuing vehicle service.
Repowering

1. Install RCM (Restraints Control Module) fuse 86 (10A) in the BCM (Body Control Module).
2. WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
Connect the battery ground cable to the LF (Left Front) strut tower and install the battery cable body ground terminal stud.
- Tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
3. Remove the BJB (Battery Junction Box) cover.
4. NOTICE: This step directs accessing circuits using a backprobe method. Use the special backprobe tool specified in the tool list. Do not force test leads or other probes into connectors. Adequate care must be exercised to avoid connector terminal damage while ensuring that good electrical contact is made with the circuit terminal. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to wiring, terminals, or connectors and subsequent electrical faults.
NOTICE: Take extra care to make sure that the correct connector terminal is back-probed. Failure to probe the correct terminal may result in DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) set in multiple modules or damage to the vehicle.
Install a backprobe pin and 5-amp fused jumper wire at connector C1035C, pin 2, circuit CDC12 (BU/YE). Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 11 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 13 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
5. NOTICE: Follow the directions in the following step carefully. Failure to follow the directions as detailed below may result in DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) set in multiple modules or damage to the vehicle.
NOTE: This step simulates pressing the start/stop switch by providing momentary voltage to the start/stop switch circuit.
Using the other end of the fused jumper wire,momentarily touch the fused jumper wire to the positive battery terminal.
6. Remove the fused jumper wire and backprobe pin from connector C1035C, pin 2, circuit CDC12 (BU/YE). Install the BJB (Battery Junction Box) cover.
7. Prove out the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System): Turn the ignition from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the ignition back to ON and monitor the air bag warning indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag warning indicator illuminates continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turns off. If a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault is present, the air bag warning indicator:
- fails to light.
- remains lit continuously.
- flashes.
The flashing may not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition has been turned from OFF to ON. This is the time required for the RCM (Restraints Control Module) to complete the testing of the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System). If the air bag warning indicator is inoperative and a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault exists, a message will display in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) indicating that a SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) fault is present. If this occurs, diagnose and repair the air bag warning indicator and any SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) faults.
8. Using a scan tool, clear all CMDTCs (Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from all modules.
