Removal

NOTICE: Do not spill brake fluid on painted or plastic surfaces or damage to the surface may occur. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash the surface with water.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. Remove the battery and battery tray. REFER to Battery and Battery Tray - Exploded View .

2. If equipped, remove the engine cover.

3. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector and, if equipped, disconnect the clutch master cylinder feed tube.





4. Disconnect the 2 brake tube fittings.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).





5. NOTE: Make sure that the master cylinder-to-booster seal is removed with the master cylinder.
Remove and discard the 2 brake master cylinder nuts and remove the master cylinder.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).





Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Bleed the master cylinder. REFER to Component Bleeding .
- If equipped with a manual transmission, bleed the clutch master cylinder. REFER to Clutch System Bleeding .
