Strut and Spring Assembly

Disassembly
NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
1. Remove the strut and spring assembly. REFER to Strut and Spring Assembly .
2. WARNING: Keep all body parts clear of shock absorbers or strut rods. Shock absorbers or struts can extend unassisted. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
Disassemble the strut and spring assembly using the following sequence.
1. Using a coil spring compressor, compress the spring.
2. NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the strut rod from rotating while removing the strut rod nut.
Carefully remove and discard the strut rod nut.
3. Remove the upper mount, spring upper seat, dust boot, strut and jounce bumper.
4. Carefully remove the spring from the spring compressor.
Assembly
1. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
2. NOTE: Only tighten the strut rod nut finger tight at this stage.
Position the strut rod nut and tighten finger tight.
3. NOTE: Make sure that these components are installed to the noted removal position.
Make sure that the spring is correctly located in the lower spring seat.
- Make sure that the installation marks are aligned.
4. NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the strut rod from rotating while tightening the strut rod nut.
Tighten the strut rod nut.
- Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
