Removal and Replacement

Removal
NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
1. Remove the wheel and tire. REFER to Wheel and Tire .
2. Remove and discard both stabilizer bar link upper nuts.
3. Using a suitable jack, raise the rearward lower control arm 32 mm (1.26 in).
4. WARNING: The coil spring is under extreme load. Care must be taken at all times when removing or installing a loaded spring. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
Remove and discard the rearward lower control arm outboard bolt.
5. Rotate the stabilizer bar towards the front of the vehicle, lower the rearward lower control arm and remove the jack.
6. Remove the spring.
- Inspect the upper and lower spring seats and replace if necessary.
Installation
NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
1. NOTICE: Make sure the upper spring seat is installed, and the spring ends butt correctly against the upper and lower spring seats.
Install the spring.
- Position the spring into the upper spring mount and position the rearward lower control arm.
2. NOTICE: Make sure the spring butts against the rearward lower control arm spring stop and is visible through the drain hole or spring and spring seat damage may occur.
If necessary, rotate the spring clockwise until the spring-end butts against the rearward lower control arm spring stop.
3. WARNING: The coil spring is under extreme load. Care must be taken at all times when removing or installing a loaded spring. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: Do not tighten the rearward lower control arm outboard bolt at this time.
Using a suitable jack, raise the rearward lower control arm and install the new rearward lower control arm outboard bolt.
- Tighten until snug.
4. Position the stabilizer bar links to the rearward lower control arms and install 2 new stabilizer bar link upper nuts.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
5. Install the wheel and tire. REFER to Wheel and Tire .
6. Lower the vehicle until the weight of the vehicle is resting on the wheels and tires.
7. Tighten the rearward lower control arm outboard bolt.
- Tighten to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft).
