ESA Ignition System (Without Vacuum Advance)
Engine Cranks But Won't Run:
Chart A-3 Wiring Diagram:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
The ECM supplies voltage to a module inside the distributor. The module supplies this voltage to the crank angle sensor, the sensor toggles this voltage to ground.
TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. Open in either fuse could be the cause of a "Crank But Will Not Run."
2. This will check the spark plug wire for opens.
3. This test inspects the injector.
4. This will determine if the ignition coil is supplying spark to distributor.
5. This tests the ECM toggling of the ignition coil.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
If engine fails to start, crank it for 2 seconds and then while keeping ignition "ON," connect spare fuse to diagnosis switch terminals. If vehicle flashes codes, Testing and Inspection
