Early Fuel Evaporation ( EFE ): Description and Operation

EFE System:

The EFE heats the incoming air/fuel charge to improve vaporization. This gives better performance during cold driving conditions. The EFE System is made up of the EFE heater, the coolant temperature sensor, and the EFE relay. The system is controlled by the electronic control module (ECM). The coolant temperature sensor communicates the temperature of the engine to the ECM. The ECM uses the information from the coolant temperature sensor to determine when to activate the EFE system. The EFE is activated when the engine temperature is below a certain level. Once the engine has reached normal operating temperature, the ECM will cut off current to the EFE heater.
