Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain transaxle oil.
3. Disconnect ground cable and electrical connectors from transaxle.
4. Disconnect speedometer cable and clutch cable from transaxle.
5. Disconnect shift and select cables from transaxle.
6. Remove air cleaner heat tube.
7. Remove upper engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
8. Raise and support vehicle.
9. Remove left front wheel and tire assembly.
10. Remove splash shield.
11. Disconnect left tie rod end from steering knuckle.
12. Remove left tension rod.
13. Disconnect drive axles from transaxle, using care to avoid damaging oil seals.
14. Remove dust cover from clutch housing.
15. Support transaxle using a suitable jack.
16. Remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
17. Slide transaxle assembly toward driver's side, away from engine. Carefully lower jack while guiding right shaft out of transaxle and remove assembly from vehicle.
18. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. When installing transaxle, guide right axle shaft into its bore as assembly is raised.
b. Torque transaxle to engine attaching bolts to 55 ft. lbs.
c. Torque left tension rod attaching bolts to 80 ft. lbs.
