DTC 22

TPS Circuit (Signal Voltage Low):

Code 22 Wiring Diagram:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:

The throttle position sensor (TPS) provides a voltage signal that changes relative to the throttle blade position. Signal voltage will vary from about 0.5 volt at idle to about 5.0 volts at wide open throttle, The TPS signal is one of the most important inputs used by the ECM for fuel control and for most of the ECM control outputs.

TEST DESCRIPTION: Numbers below refer to circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.

1. Code 22 will set if:

^ Engine is running.
^ TPS signal voltage is less than about 0.1 volt for 0.7 seconds.

2. Simulates Code 21: (high voltage). If the ECM recognizes the high signal voltage, the ECM and wiring are OK.

3. Checks for reference voltage from the ECM.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:

An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection rubbed through wire insulation or a wire broken inside the insulation. Inspect ECM harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wire connection and damaged harness.
