System Diagnosis
1. Start and run engine, ensure that engine coolant temperature is below 199°F. If fan operates, proceed to step 3.2. If fan motor operates, run engine until coolant temperature is above 208°F. If fan continues to operate, system is functioning properly. If fan does not operate, proceed to step 6.
3. Disconnect fan switch connector, if fan stops running, replace fan switch.
4. If fan continues to run, connect a suitable test lamp from fan switch connector cavity 2 to ground. If lamp lights, repair short to voltage in blue wire.
5. If lamp does not light, disconnect fan relay connector. If fan stops running, replace fan relay. If fan continues running, repair short to voltage in blue/red wire.
6. Disconnect fan relay connector and connect a fused jumper wire between cavities 2 and 4 on connector. If fan does not operate, proceed to step 11.
7. If fan operates, connect a suitable digital ohmmeter from fan relay connector cavity 3 to ground and measure resistance. If resistance is greater than .3 ohms, repair black wire between fan relay and ground G101.
8. If resistance is less than .3 ohms, connect test lamp from fan relay connector cavity 1 to ground. If test lamp lights, replace fan relay.
9. If test lamp does not light, backprobe fan switch connector with test lamp from cavity 2 to ground. If test lamp lights, repair open in blue wire.
10. If test lamp does not light, backprobe fan switch connector with test lamp from cavity 1 to ground. If test lamp lights, replace fan switch. If test lamp does not light, repair open in black/white wire between fan switch and junction block.
11. Connect test lamp from fan relay connector cavity 2 to ground. If test lamp does not light, repair open in white/green wire between fuse and relay box fan relay.
12. If lamp lights, reinstall relay and disconnect fan motor connector. Connect an ohmmeter from connector cavity 1 to ground and measure resistance. If resistance is greater than .3 ohms, repair black wire between fan motor and ground G200 on XFi, base and LSi models or black wire between fan motor and ground G101 on convertible models.
13. If resistance is less than .3 ohms, connect test lamp from fan motor connector cavity 2 to ground. If lamp lights, replace fan motor. If lamp does not light, repair open in blue/red wire.
