Valve Lifters and Lifter Bores

- Tools Required:
J 26900-6 Dial Caliper
J 26900-2 Outside Micrometer

1. Measure Lifter bore diameter using a dial caliper. The lifter bore diameter must be 31.000 to 31.025 mm (1.2205 to 1.2215 inches).
2. Measure Lifter diameter using a outside micrometer. The lifter diameter must be 30.966 to 30.976 mm (1.2191 to 1.2195 inches).
3. Determine the lifter oil clearance by subtracting the lifter diameter measurement from the lifter bore diameter measurement. The standard oil clearance is 0.024 to 0.059 mm (0.0009 to 0.0023 inch). If the oil clearance is greater than 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch), replace the lifter and measure the oil clearance again. If the oil clearance still exceeds 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch), replace the cylinder head.
