Valve Springs

- Tools Required:
J 22738-2 Valve Spring Tester
J 26900-6 Dial Caliper

1. Measure the free length of each valve spring using a dial caliper. If spring free length is less than 42.4 mm (1.669 inches), replace the spring.
2. Measure valve spring preload using a valve spring tester. If the preload is less than 16.9 kg (37.3 lbs.) at 31.7 mm (1.248 inches), replace the spring.





3. Measure valve spring squareness using a combination square. Measure the distance between the end of the spring and the square. If the distance is greater than 2.0 mm (0.079 inches), replace the spring.
