Installation
- Tool Required - J 8614-01 Crankshaft Pulley Holder, or equivalent.1. Align the camshaft knock pin with the knock pin groove on the pulley side with K mark (2 knock pin grooves type), and slide on the timing pulley. Hold camshaft at hexagonal wrench head portion to prevent rotation. Tighten camshaft timing gear bolt to 59 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
2. Turn the hexagonal wrench head portion of the camshaft timing gear to align the hole on the gear with the mark on the bearing cap.
3. Crankshaft timing gear. Align crankshaft key with groove on gear and slide gear on crankshaft.
4. Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the crankshaft timing gear to position the key groove of the crankshaft timing pulley upward.
5. Timing belt tensioner; secure with one bolt. Do not tighten fully.
6. Tensioner spring.
7. Push the tensioner to the left, as far as it will travel, and tighten bolt enough to hold the tensioner in place.
CAUTION: When installing a used timing belt, align the marks made during removal and install the belt with the arrow pointing in the direction of engine rotation.
8. Timing belt to crankshaft timing gear and also to the tensioner. Adjust:
a. Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt, allowing the spring to pull the idler pulley to the right.
b. Turn the crankshaft two complete revolutions from Top Dead Center (TDC) to TDC. Always turn the crankshaft clockwise. Inspect camshaft and crankshaft timing gears to ensure marks are still aligned. Tighten timing belt tensioner bolt to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
9. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt. Measure timing belt deflection. Timing belt deflection specification is 5 to 6 mm (0.20 to 0.24 inch) with 20 Nm (4.4 lbs.) of pressure. If timing belt deflection is out of specification, adjust with the timing belt tensioner.
10. Timing belt guide with the cupped side facing out.
11. Timing belt covers. Install bottom cover first and work upward; secure covers with nine bolts. Tighten timing belt cover bolts to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).
12. Crankshaft pulley to crankshaft after aligning pulley key with slot on pulley; secure with one bolt while holding crankshaft pulley with a crankshaft pulley holder. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt to 118 Nm (87 ft. lbs.).
13. Temporarily install coolant pump pulley.
14. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
15. Engine mount.
16. Engine ground wire to right fender apron.
17. New cylinder head cover gasket to cylinder head.
18. New seal washers to cylinder head cover.
19. Cylinder head cover to cylinder head; secure with four cap nuts. Tighten cylinder head cap nuts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
20. Two Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hoses to cylinder head cover; secure with hose clamps.
21. Secondary (spark plug) wires and spark plugs. See Powertrain Management.
22. Engine wiring harness to cylinder head cover.
23. Engine wiring harness cover; secure with two bolts. Tighten engine wiring harness cover bolts to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs.).
24. The following electrical connectors.

25. Power steering pump drive belt (if equipped); slide pump back to original position; secure with pivot and lock bolts. Adjust power steering pump drive belt. See Steering and Suspension.
26. A/C compressor mounting bracket; secure with four bolts. Tighten A/C compressor mounting bracket bolts to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
27. A/C compressor (if equipped); secure with four bolts. Tighten A/C compressor bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
28. A/C compressor electrical connector.
29. A/C compressor drive belt; secure with idler pulley mounting and adjusting bolts. Adjust A/C compressor drive belt. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
30. Generator/coolant pump drive belt; secure with pivot, adjusting and lock bolts. Generator/coolant pump drive belt.
31. Right-side wheelhousing; secure with ten bolts and two plastic clips. Tighten right-side wheelhousing bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
32. Right front wheel and tire assembly.
33. Cruise control actuator to vehicle; secure with three bolts (if equipped). Tighten cruise control actuator bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
34. Cruise control cable (if equipped).
35. Cruise control actuator cover (if equipped).
