Inspection

Inspect:
A. Timing belt for the following:
- Premature parting.
- Cracked or damaged teeth.
- Noticeable wear or cracks in the belt face.
- Wear or damage only on one side of the belt. If found, check alignment of each gear, tensioner and guide.

B. Idler pulley for freedom of rotation. If any roughness is found, replace the idler pulley. Measure free length of tension spring using a dial caliper. If free length is not 36.9 mm (1.453 inches), replace the spring. Stretch the tension spring to 43.6 mm (1.717 inch), which is its installed length, and measure the tension. The tension spring should have a tension of 34 Nm (7.7 ft. lbs.) to 38 Nm (8.6 ft. lbs.). If the tension is not as specified, replace the tension spring.
