Testing EVAP Canister Operation:
EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP) CANISTER CHECK VALVE
With evaporative emission (EVAP) canister removed, the following checks will determine if the valve located on top of the EVAP canister is operating properly.
1. Using a small length of vacuum hose connected to the tank pipe, blow into the EVAP canister. Air should escape the air tube at the bottom of the EVAP canister. Air will also escape the purge pipe as well.
2. Repeat the above test to the purge pipe. Air should not escape any of the other pipes.
If EVAP canister check valve fails the above tests, the EVAP canister should be replaced.
