EGR Valve: Service and Repair

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (California Emissions Only) Removal and Installation

REMOVAL OR DISCONNECT

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Throttle body from air intake chamber.

3. Vacuum hoses from EGR valve and vacuum modulator.

EGR Valve Removal:






4. Two bolts and fuel feed/return hose bracket from intake manifold.
5. One bolt, one nut and engine hanger from engine.

EGR Valve Removal:






6. Loosen EGR valve to pipe connection nut.
7. EGR temperature sensor electrical connector.

EGR Valve Removal:






8. Two nuts, two gaskets and EGR valve and pipe from vehicle.


DISASSEMBLE

1. EGR valve from EGR pipe.
2. EGR temperature sensor from EGR valve.


INSPECT

EGR Valve Removal:





1. EGR valve for carbon deposits and sticking. Replace as necessary.


ASSEMBLE

1. EGR temperature sensor along with new gasket.
1. EGR valve to pipe; secure with one nut.



INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Two new gaskets, EGR valve and pipe to engine. Tighten EGR valve nuts to 9 ft.lbs. (13 Nm). Tighten EGR valve pipe nuts to 43 ft.lbs. (59 Nm).
2. EGR temperature sensor electrical connector.
3. EGR vacuum hoses.
4. Engine hanger assembly to engine. Tighten hanger nut and bolt to 21 ft.lbs. (28 Nm).
5. Fuel feed/return hoses to intake manifold; secure with one with two bolts. Tighten to 8 ft.lbs. (10 Nm).
6. EGR vacuum modulator hoses.
7. A new throttle body gasket and throttle body to engine.
8. Negative battery cable.
