Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Service and Repair
Remove or Disconnect1. Negative (-) battery cable.
PCV And Hoses:
2. Four clamps, both positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hoses and PCV valve from engine and intake plenum.
Inspect
^ PCV valve operation
1. Connect a clean hose to cylinder head side of PCV valve.
PCV Valve Check:
2. Blow into the cylinder head side and make sure that air passes through easily.
CAUTION: Do not suck air through PCV valve. Petroleum substances inside the valve are harmful.
3. Remove hose from intake manifold side of PCV valve and connect it to the intake manifold side of valve.
PCV Valve Check:
4. Blow air into the intake manifold side and make sure that air passes through with difficulty.
^ If operation is not as specified as in Step 2 or 4, replace PCV valve.
Install or Connect
1. PCV hoses and valve to engine and intake plenum; secure with four clamps.
2. Negative (-) battery cable.
Tighten
^ Negative (-) battery cable-to-negative battery terminal retainer to 15 Nm (11 lb.ft.).
