Steering Column - Dissemble & Assemble

Exploded View Of Steering Column:






NOTE: The steering column cannot be serviced, a faulty column can be replaced only.

DISASSEMBLE
Refer to Fig. 80, for exploded view of steering column.
1. Disconnect combination switch electrical connector.
2. Loosen four screws and remove combination switch from steering column.
3. Remove ignition switch housing as follows:
a. Using a suitable center punch, mark center of the tapered-head bolts securing the ignition switch housing.
b. Using a .12-.16 inch (3-4 mm) drill bit, drill into tapered-head bolts.
c. Remove two tapered-head bolts using a suitable bolt extractor, then remove the ignition switch housing.
4. Remove main shaft, noting the following:
a. Using suitable snap ring pliers, remove upper snap ring.
b. Remove shaft from steering column tube.
c. Remove snap ring from shaft.

ASSEMBLE
1. Connect main shaft into column tube as follows:
a. Using snap ring pliers, install snap ring to the inside groove of the main shaft.
b. Insert main shaft into the tube.
c. Using snap ring pliers, connect shaft snap ring to column.
2. Install ignition switch housing assembly to steering column, securing with two new tapered-head bolts. Tighten tapered-head bolts until heads snap off.
3. Install combination switch to steering column, securing with four screws.
4. Connect combination switch electrical connector.
