Rear Door Latch Replacement
NOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.
1. Raise the glass fully.
2. Remove the door panel Service and Repair.
3. Remove the plastic cover, as needed Service and Repair.
4. Detach the rod fastener from the outer handle rod Service and Repair.
5. Remove the maintenance cap. Disconnect the outer handle rod with a clip remover from the outer handle Service and Repair.
6. Remove the screws (A, B) securing the latch (C), then lower it.
NOTE: Take care not to bend the outer handle rod (D), the latch cable (E), and the inner handle cable (F).
7. Remove the bolt from the lower end of the rear lower channel (A).
8. Slant the latch (A) while inside the door.
9. Pass the latch through under the rear lower channel (B) while pulling up the end (C) of the rear lower channel lightly, and remove it from the inside of the door.
10. Remove the screws, then remove the latch protector (A).
11. Disconnect the latch cable (A) from the latch (B).
12. Detach the cable fastener (C), then disconnect the inner handle cable (D) from the cable fastener.
NOTE: If the cable fastener is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one.
13. Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Make sure the power door lock actuator connector is plugged in properly.
- Make sure each cable and the outer handle rod are connected securely.
- Make sure the door lock operates properly.
- When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.
- If the inner door handle cable end is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one.
