SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 34-8x

DTC 34-8x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

Short to Power in the Right Side Curtain Airbag Inflator

Special Tools Required

- SRS Inflator Simulator 07SAZ-TB4011A
- SRS Simulator Lead L 070AZ-SNAA300

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.

1. Clear the DTCs with HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 34-8x indicated?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

6. Remove the right side quarter pillar glass trim Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas.

7. Disconnect the side wire harness 2P connector (A) from the right side curtain airbag inflator connector (B).






8. Connect the terminals of the SRS simulator lead L to the SRS inflator simulator (2 Ohms connectors), and then connect the SRS simulator lead L to the side wire harness.

9. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

10. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

12. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 34-8x indicated?

YES -

Go to step 13.

NO -

Short to power in the right side curtain airbag inflator; replace the right side curtain airbag Side Curtain Airbag Replacement, then clear the DTC.�

13. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

14. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

15. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit Service and Repair.

16. Disconnect the SRS inflator simulator from the SRS simulator lead L. Do not disconnect the SRS simulator lead L from the side wire harness 2P connector.

17. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

18. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

19. Measure the voltage between black terminal of SRS simulator lead L (A) and body ground individually. There should be less than 0.2 V.





Is the voltage as specified?

YES -

Faulty SRS unit or poor connection at SRS unit connector B (28P) and the SRS unit. Check the connection between the connector and the SRS unit. If the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement. If the DTC does not clear, replace the harness.�

NO -

Go to step 20.

20. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

21. Disconnect floor wire harness 4P connector C606 (A) from side wire harness 4P connector C606 (B).






22. Measure the voltage between body ground and floor wire harness 4P connector C606 terminals No. 1 and No. 2, individually. There should be less than 0.2 V.





Is the voltage as specified?

YES -

Short to power in the side wire harness; replace the side wire harness, then clear the DTC.�

NO -

Short to power in the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.�
