SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 71-1x
DTC 71-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
Open in the Driver's Seat Position Sensor
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Raise the driver's seat all the way up.
2. Clear the DTCs with HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Is DTC 71-1x indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Check the connection between the driver's seat position sensor subharness ('07 model with seat heater, '07-11 models without seat heater) or driver's seat wire harness ('08-11 models with seat heater) 2P connector and the driver's seat position sensor Service and Repair, and at connector C551 and C552.
7. Clear the DTCs with HDS.
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
9. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 71-1x indicated?
YES -
Go to step 10.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�
10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
11. Disconnect the driver's seat position sensor subharness ('07 model with seat heater, '07-11 models without seat heater) or driver's seat wire harness ('08-11 models with seat heater) 2P connector (A) from the driver's seat position sensor (B).
12. Install a jumper wire between driver's seat position sensor subharness ('07 model with seat heater, '07-11 models without seat heater) or driver's seat wire harness ('08-11 models with seat heater) 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
13. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
14. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit Service and Repair.
15. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (28P) terminals No. 5 and No. 6. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty driver's seat position sensor or SRS unit; replace the driver's seat position sensor Service and Repair, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.�
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness, driver's seat wire harness, driver's seat heater subharness, or the driver's seat position sensor subharness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.�
