81-62
SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 81-61, 81-62
DTC 81-61:
No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 81-62:
Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat, and make sure nothing in the seat-back pocket.
2. Clear the DTCs with HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Is DTC 81-61 or 81-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Check the No. 9 (7.5A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 9 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, floor wire harness, front passenger's seat subharness, or ODS unit harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
7. Check the connection between the ODS unit harness 18P connector (A) and the ODS unit (B).
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Repair the poor connection and retest. If DTC 81-61 or 81-62 is still present, go to step 8.
8. Disconnect the ODS unit harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
10. Measure the voltage between body ground and ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 1. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness, front passenger's seat subharness, or ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
12. Measure the resistance between body ground and ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 12. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 13.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness, front passenger's seat subharness, ODS unit harness, or poor connection at the ODS unit harness 18P connector and ODS unit. Check the ground connection at G552. Check the connection; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
13. Disconnection the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
14. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (28P) from the SRS unit Service and Repair.
15. Measure the resistance between body ground and SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Short to ground in the harness between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and the ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (floor wire harness, front passenger's seat subharness, or ODS unit harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
16. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit or SRS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.
NO -
Open in the harness between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and the ODS unit harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (floor wire harness, front passenger's seat subharness, or ODS unit harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
