SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-79

DTC 85-79:

OPDS Initial Check Failure

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

1. Clear the DTCs with HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

3. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 85-79 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat, and make sure nothing in the seat-back pocket.

6. Clear the DTCs with HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

8. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 85-79 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 9.

NO -

The system is OK at this time.�

9. Clear the DTCs with HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

10. Do the ODS unit initialization Programming and Relearning.

11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

13. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 85-79 indicated?

YES -

Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the seat-backcover/pad with equipped OPDS sensor Front Seat-back Cover/Pad Replacement, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.�

NO -

The system is OK.�
