Front Door Latch Replacement

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to scratch the door or the related parts.

1. Raise the glass fully.

2. Remove the door panel Service and Repair.

3. Remove the inner handle Service and Repair.

4. Remove the plastic cover, as needed Service and Repair.

5. Detach the rod fastener from the outer handle rod Service and Repair.

6. Remove the maintenance cap. Disconnect the outer handle rod with a clip remover from the outer handle Service and Repair.

7. Pull the glass run channel (A) away as needed, and remove the bolt, then remove the center lower channel (B) by pulling it downward.

NOTE: Take care not to bend, deform or damage the center lower channel.





8. Driver's door: Pull both side flanges of the retainer outward, and pull out the middle flange portion of the outer casing cover, then disconnect the door lock cylinder cable from the latch Service and Repair.

9. Remove the screws (A, B) securing the latch (C), then remove the latch through the hole in the door.

NOTE: Take care not to bend the outer handle rod (D), the latch cable (E), and the inner handle cable (F).






10. Remove the screws, then remove the latch protector (A).






11. Disconnect the latch cable (A) from the latch (B).





12. Detach the cable fastener (C), then disconnect the inner handle cable (D) from the cable fastener.

NOTE: If the cable fastener is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one.

13. Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Make sure the power door lock actuator connector is plugged in properly.
- Make sure each cable and the outer handle rod are connected securely.
- Make sure the door locks operate properly.
- When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.
- If the inner door handle cable end is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one.
