Front Seat-back Cover/Pad Replacement

Special Tools Required

- Trim Pad Remover Snap-on A 177A or equivalent, commercially available
- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

- Do the ODS unit initialization Programming and Relearning after front passenger's seat replacement.

NOTE:

- Take care not to tear the seams or damage the seat covers.
- On the passenger's seat, do not touch the OPDS sensor in the seat-back pad, and keep it away from oil.
Oil can corrode the sensor causing it to fail.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.

1. Remove the front seat Front Seat Removal/Installation.

2. Passenger's seat: Remove the front seat under tray Front Seat Under Tray Replacement.

3. Remove the armrest Front Seat Armrest Replacement.

4. Remove the head restraint.

5. From under the seat cushion, detach the side airbag connector clip (A) and the seat heater connector clip (driver's seat) (B), then remove the wire harness ties (C).

6. Release the elastic strap (D) or strap (E) and the slits in the seat cushion cover (F) from the seat cushion frame springs (G), then pull the cover back.

7. Insert a trim pad remover between the bottom of the back panel (A) and the seat frame until it squarely engages one of the clips. Gently pry on the clip until it detaches from the seat frame. Repeat for the other clip. Gently pull the back panel back to release the hooks (B) then pull the panel down to release the hooks (C).

NOTE:

- The clips usually break during removal. Always replace the clips with new ones.
- Detach the clips and the hooks in numbered sequence as shown.
- Take care not damage the seat-back panel or the clip mounting pads.





8. Release the Velcro fasteners (A) and the hooks (B), then pull the seat-back cover (C) back.

9. Pull the side airbag harness (A) out through the harness holes (B) in the seat-back cover and the seat frame. Disconnect the seat-back heater harness connector (C) if equipped. Driver's seat is shown; passenger's seat is similar.

10. Remove the side airbag Side Airbag Replacement.

11. Release the hook strips (A), then loosen the seat-back cover (B). Driver's seat is shown; passenger's seat is similar.

12. Turn over the reinforcing cloth (A), then release the hooks (B) from the side airbag module holder (C). Passenger's seat is shown; driver's seat is symmetrical.






13. Passenger's seat: Disconnect the OPDS sensor connectors (A) and the ODS unit harness connector (B) from the ODS unit (C), and pull them in through the hole in the seat frame. Detach the harness clips (D), and remove the wire harness.






14. Pinch the tabs on the ends of the head restraint guides (A), and remove them from the seat-back.






15. Remove the seat-back cover/pad (A) from the seat (B).






16. Pull back the edge of the seat-back cover (A) all the way around, and release the clips (B), then remove the seat-back cover.






17. Install the cover in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- To prevent wrinkles when installing a seat-back cover, make sure the material is stretched evenly over the pad before securing the clips, the hooks, and the hook strips.
- Replace any clips (A) you removed with new ones.
- Before installing the side airbag (B), make sure the reinforcing cloth (C) is fixed on the seat-back frame (D) securely.
- Make sure the side airbag harness and ODS unit harness (passenger's seat) are routed properly.
