Front Door Armrest Leather Is Wrinkled or Bubbled

SYMPTOM

The front door armrest leather is wrinkled or bubbled.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Suntan lotion, moisturizing lotions, or cosmetics are reacting with the leather.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the affected front door armrest(s).

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Raise the door glass fully.





2. Using the appropriate trim tool, pry out the lower portion of the inner handle cap to release the hooks. Then, remove the screws from the inner handle.





3. Using the appropriate trim tool, pry out the upper cap of the front door grip to release the hooks. Then, remove the screw.

4. Using the appropriate trim tool, pry out the lower cap of the front door grip to release the hooks. Then, remove the screw.





5. Using the appropriate trim tool, pry out the cover in the door pocket to release the hooks. Then, remove the cover and the screw.





6. Pry out the edge of the mirror mount cover with a trim tool to detach the clips, and gently pull out the cover to detach the pin from the door.





7. Starting at the bottom edge of the door panel, release the clips with a commercially available trim pad remover, then detach the clips.

8. Starting at the rear, pull the door panel upward.

NOTE:
The inner handle cable and the latch cable are connected to the inner handle. Do not pull the door panel up to far, or these cables will be damaged.





9. While holding the door panel away from the door, remove the inner handle from the door panel by detaching the clips.





10. Disconnect the power window switch connector and the power mirror switch connector.





11. Disconnect the inner handle cable and the latch cable from the inner handle, then remove the handle.

12. Detach the inner handle cable fastener, then disconnect the inner handle cable from the cable fastener.

13. Detach the latch cable fastener with a flat-tip screwdriver, and disconnect the latch cable from the cable fastener. Then, remove the door panel.

NOTE:
If the cable fasteners are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them.





14. From the backside of the door panel, remove the door grip upper bracket and the door grip lower bracket.





15. Remove the seven armrest screws.





16. Release the clips from the backside of the armrest.





17. Remove the door grip and the armrest by pulling out on them.





18. Remove the screws from the power window control unit, the armrest pocket and the power window control unit trim. Then, remove them from the armrest.

19. Reinstall the power window control unit, the armrest pocket, and trim on the new armrest.

20. Install the new armrest, and reinstall the door grip on the door panel.

21. Reinstall the lower and upper door grip brackets on the door panel.

22. Reinstall the inner handle cable and the latch cable.

23. Reconnect the power mirror switch connector and the power window switch connector, then reinstall the inner handle.

24. Reinstall the door panel, the mirror mount cover, the door pocket screw and cover, the door grip screws, and the inner handle screws and cap.

25. Repeat steps 1 thru 24 for the other armrest if needed.
