DTC Troubleshooting: B1173

DTC B1173:

Gauge Control Module Lost Communication With the TPMS Control Unit (TPMS Message)

NOTE: If the HDS does not communicate with the TPMS control unit, the TPMS indicator do not go off, and no TPMS DTCs are stored, go to symptom troubleshooting for TPMS indicator does not go off, and no DTCs are stored '09-11 models TPMS Indicator Does Not Go Off, And No DTCs Are Stored ('09-10 Models).

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).

3. Wait for at least 6 seconds.

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1173 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the F-CAN communication line is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.�

5. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1178 also indicated at the same time?

YES -

Troubleshoot DTC B1178 B1178.�

NO -

Go to step 6.

6. Check for TPMS DTCs with the HDS.

Are any DTCs indicated?

YES -

Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting, then recheck.

NO -

Go to step 7.

7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

8. Disconnect the gauge control module 36P connector.

9. Disconnect the TPMS control unit connector B (20P) ('07-08 models) or the TPMS control unit 20P connector ('09-11 models).

10. Check for continuity between gauge control module 36P connector terminals No. 28 and No. 29 and TPMS control unit connector B (20P) terminals No. 10 and No. 19 ('07-08 models) or TPMS control unit 20P connector terminals No. 11 and No. 2 ('09-11 models) respectively.

Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good TPMS control unit, '09-11 models Service and Repair, and recheck. If the indication goes away, replace the original TPMS control unit. If the DTC is still present, replace the gauge control module Service and Repair.�

NO -

Repair an open or poor connection in the wire between the TPMS control unit and the gauge control module.�
