SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 86-1x, 86-2x
DTC 86-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
Faulty OPDS Seat-back Sensor
DTC 86-2x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
Faulty OPDS Seat Support Sensor
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Clear the DTC memory.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�
NOTE: Aftermarket devices (fluorescent lights, laptop computers, etc.) used near the front passenger's seat-back can interfere with the seat-back sensors and cause a false DTC 86-1x or 86-2x. If one of these devices was used, clear the DTC memory, operate the device near the seat-back, and recheck for DTCs. If DTC 86-1x or 86-2x is set, clear it, and do not use the device near the seat-back.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
5. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement.
6. Remove the cover from the ODS unit.
7. Check the connections at the OPDS sensor connectors (A) and the ODS unit 18P connector (B), and ODS unit.
Are the connections OK?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Repair the poor connection, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 86-1x or 86-2x is still present, go to step 8.
8. Replace the seat-back cover/pad with equipped OPDS sensor Front Seat-Back Cover Replacement.
9. Clear the DTC memory.
10. Do the ODS unit initialization Programming and Relearning.
11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
12. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?
YES -
Replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.�
NO -
The system is OK.�
