SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 81-61, 81-62
DTC 81-61:
No Signal From the ODS Unit ('08-10 models)
DTC 81-62:
Incorrect Data From of the ODS Unit ('08-10 models)
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
2. Clear the DTC memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Read the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Is DTC 81-61 or 81-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Check the connection between the ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat), or the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector and the ODS unit.
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Repair the poor connection, then clear the DTC. If DTC 81-61 or 81-62 is still present, go to step 6.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Check the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II). If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, floor wire harness, front passenger's seat wire harness, or ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat)). Replace the faulty harness or component, then clear the DTC.
8. Disconnect the ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat), or the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
10. Measure the voltage between ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat) or front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
Go to step 11.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
12. Disconnect dashboard wire harness connector C504 (22P) (A) from floor wire harness connector C504 (22P) (B).
13. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
14. Measure the voltage between dashboard wire harness connector C504 (22P) terminal No. 15 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Open in the WHT wire of the floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness, or the ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
NO -
Open in the WHT wire of the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.
15. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
16. Measure the resistance between ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat) or front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 12 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 17.
NO -
Open in the BLK wire of the floor wire harness, the ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat), or the passenger's seat wire harness; check for poor ground connection at G651. If the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
17. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
18. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
19. Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit Service and Repair.
20. Disconnect the ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat) or the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
21. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 22.
NO -
Go to step 25.
22. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat) or front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit or SRS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.
NO -
Go to step 23.
23. Disconnect dashboard wire harness connector C504 (22P) (A) from floor wire harness connector C504 (22P) (B).
24. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and dashboard wire harness connector C504 (22P) terminal No. 16. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Open in the floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness, or the ODS unit harness (with passenger's 4-way power seat); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
NO -
Open in the dashboard wire harness; replace the dashboard wire harness, then clear the DTC.
25. Disconnect dashboard wire harness connector C504 (22P) (A) from floor wire harness connector C504 (22P) (B).
26. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector A (28P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
